07:15 pm - tonight: high school humiliations revisited
Tonight is LAW SCHOOL PROM! I have a vintage yellow dress (that I took the hem up on today) and a grey velvet clutch (that I made today) and GOLD SHOES and my blue coat (that I mended today).
I'm a crafty mofo. And as my reward, I'm taking tickets from my fellow students for the first hour or so of the prom. I hope my feet don't die.
The point is, I've been watching The Mummy Returns and The Scorpion King, because, you know, they're on, and they're AWESOME. Especially The Scorpion King, what with the Rock going into slooooo moooooshun every time he starts fighting. Fabulous. I love that man.

Ah yes, The Mummy Returns and The Scorpion King, films which I have certainly enjoyed in a not entirely ironic manner. How good a movie is Scorpion King? So good that when a friend of mine went to see it he was compelled to punch himself in the groin repeatedly throughout the viewing. It's just that good. And said friend is just that fucked up.

Fun/shameful Alison factoid: my roommate Carolina (maid of honor at my wedding) and I were so into The Mummy in college that we used to watch it with the closed captioning on, the volume down, and read the lines of the movie out loud. Kind of like Rocky Horror, but I can't determine if it was more or less dorky.

Whenever the Scorpion King comes up in conversation, I'm going to relay that story. It's kind of like, half endorsement, half warning. You will enjoy this movie, but your junk will not.
Did you know that there is a new Mummy movie coming out, titled Tomb of the Dragon Emperor? Downside: Rachel Weisz, um, declined to acquiesce to appear in it, so they switched in Maria Bello as Evey O'Connell. Upside: Michelle Yeoh and Jet Li are in it.

Also, sources say 'more dorky'. But only barely.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this anywhere else but...

...what I love about the Scorpion King is the way that he has like EVERY sidekick from every other action movie. He's got the coniving con-man sidekick. The scrappy kid sidekick. The hot but liberated woman sidekick. The Old Geezer who invents things sidekick.

If they'd just added a talking animal he'd have the whole lot. Maybe a barracuda or wombat? Would be pretty awesome...
